LT4 Knock Module for the LT1 ECM
by Jordon Musser
Overview
The LT4KM is a knock module designed for the noisier(roller rocker equiped) LT4
engine. This module reduces the sensing of knock, which assures that timing will not
be retarded unless there is really engine knock. By running this LT4KM you are
basically going to a less sensitive knock module, which in turn won't retard the timing
unless it "hears" heavy knock. This is a controversial mod because some
say it won't detect real knock, but a LT1 running 92+ octane without a blower/turbo/n20
should NEVER knock. I found that it smoothed out my torque and horse power curves a
lot. I installed if after my header install, because I felt that the
"noise" of the headers may have been causing the knock module to sense false
knock. I would not reccomend this
mod to someone running n20, a blower, or any other forced induction. The LT4KMs part
number is 16214681, and can be purcahsed from Lambert
Pontiac for about $27.
| Installation This is an easy modification. Just remove the ECM bolts(already removed in the picture). And slide the ECM out, by pulling up on it. The cowl my have to be flexed slightly to get the ECM out. Next remove the two torx head screw on the ECM case, and remove the plate that covers the knock module. Squeeze the tabs on the old knock module, and pull straight out. Now insert the LT4KM in the the old knock modules place, and reinstall the cover then the ECM. On the Street Conclusion
